Sun Strikes Multi-Million Dollar Deal with Leading ERP Software Company to Deploy MySQL Enterprise and GlassFish Solutions
New Customer Stesud Deploys Open Source Application Server and Database Platform to Reduce Enterprise IT Costs and Improve Overall Performance
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Sept. 9, 2008 -- Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced the addition of the leading enterprise resource planning (ERP) software vendor Stesud to a growing list of customers that have adopted and deployed Sun's open source MySQL™ database and GlassFish™ application server software. This Belgium-based enterprise company joins Australian online travel pioneer Wotif.com and hundreds of other companies that now rely on MySQL and GlassFish as a lower-cost, higher-performance alternative to traditional database and application server software.
To hear Sun's executive vice-president of Global Sales and Services Peter Ryan discuss the Stesud deal, see the latest Sun Headlines Customer Corner show at www.sun.com/news. "As a leader in open source software, Sun bet on open source as an enterprise business model years ago, and the adoption curve we're seeing in 2008 validates that move. Companies from around the globe and from all business sectors are shifting to open source solutions, including Sun's open source Java™ software, as well as OpenSolaris™ as their operating system," said Rich Green, executive vice president of Software, Sun Microsystems.
Stesud: Open Source Makes Sense When it identified that its existing software infrastructure needed refreshing, Belgium-based St?sud looked to Java as the technology upon which to build the company's new platform. An ERP provider with eGovernment clients that include the Belgian government, St?sud evaluated several solutions and selected Sun's GlassFish application server. As part of this multi-million dollar deal, St?sud also employed Sun's MySQL Enterprise™ subscription, allowing the company to dependably migrate to a more scalable and reliable Web database architecture for the future. Selected for its competitive pricing and performance levels, this deployment will allow St?sud to run its existing applications, in addition to new ones that it previously would have been unable to support.
"Our customers expect and demand the highest levels of software availability and performance imaginable, considering that Stesud's ERP solution is central to the functioning of major businesses and even governments," said Benoit Lemaire, CEO of Stesud. "Java-based GlassFish was the first piece of the puzzle we identified to meet our stringent new infrastructure requirements. As soon as Sun acquired MySQL, we decided to employ it as our new database rather than Oracle. With Sun behind both GlassFish and MySQL, it was the best open source infrastructure combination for our needs and for our customers' operations."

To register for this web presentation, please go to Grow Existing BI Deployments at Lower TCO with Open Source
Thursday October 16th - Web presentation, European business hours Most businesses currently enable just 10-20% of the possible BI stakeholders and are holding back from offering BI to more users, frequently due to costs, complexity, and integration issues. Please join this webcast to learn how your peer organizations who already own proprietary BI from vendors like Oracle, Business Objects, Cognos, Informatica and others, have deployed commercial open source business intelligence, side-by-side in their existing BI deployments, as well as for new users and projects. You'll learn about how they've used open source business intelligence to deploy more rapidly, with lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Using commercial open source BI in coordination with your existing BI system can solve many of the issues that are limiting your ability to expand, by: -
Integrating well with your existing systems, including your existing BI and data integration tools -
Leveraging your current infrastructure to reach new users at far lower cost -
Providing flexible, standards-based integration -
Utilizing your IT teams current skill set -
Employing the open source model which eliminates large, up-front license fees and enables near "frictionless" growth WHO: Jared Cornelius, Product Marketing Manager, Pentaho Anthony Carter, Sr. Support Engineer EMEA, Pentaho
